People expect a limo or car service to be more of a mystery than it is. There’s no meter surprise and no surge multiplier — but there also isn’t a single number, because a 15-minute sedan transfer and a 10-hour group wine tour aren’t the same product. Instead of publishing a rate card that would be wrong for half of trips, we quote each one in writing. Here’s what actually shapes that quote.
The vehicle you need
A sedan, an SUV, a stretch limousine, a Sprinter and a party bus are different vehicles with different costs behind them. The right one is usually decided by your passenger and luggage count and the occasion — four executives to the airport is a very different vehicle from a twenty-person night out.
The route and distance
Where you start, where you’re going, and the practical path between them all matter. A cross-bay run to SFO covers more ground than a hop across the Tri-Valley, and some routes carry bridge tolls or airport fees that belong in an honest quote rather than as a surprise at the curb.
The timing
Time of day and day of the week affect how long a trip really takes and how it’s staffed. A 6 a.m. airport departure, a Friday-evening pickup and a holiday weekend each carry different real-world demands. Peak dates like New Year’s Eve and prom weekends are simply busier, and that’s reflected up front — never sprung on you afterward.
How long you need the car: transfer vs. hourly
This is the biggest fork. There are two clean ways to price a trip, and the right one depends on the shape of your day:
- A point-to-point transfer — say, home to the airport — is a flat fare based on the route.
- An as-directed day, where the car and chauffeur stay with you, is billed hourly with a short minimum.
- Any day with several stops or a long evening usually works out simpler, and better value, as an hourly block than as a string of separate transfers with waiting in between.
Wait time and extra stops
A quick grocery stop, a longer-than-planned dinner, or a flight that lands late all involve the chauffeur’s time. On hourly bookings that’s simply part of the block; on transfers we build in reasonable airport wait time and tell you up front how added stops or time are handled, so there’s nothing to guess.
Why a written quote beats a surge estimate
The point of all of this is predictability. Once we confirm your fare in writing, it doesn’t move because an app got busy or the weather turned.
